What’s next for Merino wool thanks to Platinumworld

Platinumworld

Debuting at the last Pitti Filati and the upcoming edition of Milano Unica, Platinumworld is a newborn platform that connects material developers, yarn manufacturers, weavers, garment manufacturers, and brands. It is part of Ist Platinumwool, a new technology developed for treating Merino wool by I.S.T. Corporation, a Japanese company specializing in materials technologies such as advanced polymers, fibers, and innovations in natural fibers.

Aim of the project is to bring together various companies and organizations that use the new technology and expand the possibilities of what can be created with wool.

The new technology enhances the fiber’s natural qualities, preserving its authenticity and beauty, while simultaneously unlocking new creative opportunities for designers, textile companies, and brands.

This innovation has attracted the attention of an international network of companies that share the same vision of shaping the future of textiles through collaboration between complementary areas of expertise and ongoing research.

Various companies are part of the Platinumworld network. Among others, Woolmark, the global authority on wool, is committed to advancing the wool industry through research, market development, and quality assurance. Furthermore, it is involved in creating and expanding opportunities for wool fiber—from sheep farming to the finished product.

Also part of the network is the Südwolle Group that explores new opportunities for the platform in the field of premium yarns and fabrics, and Mister Joe, part of the A Zeta Group, an Italian company that combines manufacturing tradition with technological innovation. CM Tessuti is among the first European companies to have transformed Ist Platinumwool developments into commercial collections for premium international brands.

Each partner of the network brings different skills, experiences, and perspectives, united by a common ambition to develop new creative solutions for wool. The partners involved in the project share the belief that innovation and sustainability are complementary elements in the development of contemporary textiles.

The goal of the project is to expand the possibilities available to the entire supply chain. Through collaboration across diverse areas of expertise and the exploration of new technologies applied to natural fibers, designers can rely on new creative tools, manufacturers are challenged to develop increasingly advanced solutions, and brands can continue their search for materials capable of combining quality, performance, and long-term value, creating new materials for the future.
