A new sustainable project is hitting the market. The Lycra Company, a global innovative fiber manufacturer, Naveena Denim Mills, a vertical manufacturer of high-quality denim from Pakistan, and Only & Sons, a young-minded jeans and menswear brand part of the Danish giant Bestseller Group, joined their forces to offer a jeans collection using Renewable Lycra fiber.
The project shows how collaborating within the whole value chain can support testing new materials while guaranteeing consumers good performance standards.
For the new project they are using Renewable Lycra, a bio-based elastomer, made from approximately 70% industrial corn not aimed at the direct food chain, which offers a potential reduction in the carbon footprint of up to 44% compared to traditional fossil-based Lycra fiber, while maintaining its iconic performance in terms of elasticity, comfort, and durability. Renewable Lycra fiber also enables a simple and immediate transition for brands, textile manufacturers, and consumers.
“Working with Renewable Lycra fiber has allowed us to integrate renewable components into denim without compromising the fabric’s performance,” said Aydan Tuzun, senior vice president, Naveena. “It’s a concrete example of how fiber-level innovation can be developed at scale through fabric design, while still meeting performance requirements.”
For this capsule they use a singe core denim fabric made up of cotton and Renewable Lycra in the Sila black/black variant. The fabric was designed for a slim fit apparel with a cotton aspect and hand, typical Lycra fiber recovery. By adding this fiber to its fabrics, Naveena shows how new modern clothes can increase their commitment, while keeping unchanged performance, look and fit.
Renewable Lycra fiber complies with internationally recognized industry standards, including ISCC+, USDA BioPreferred, and a third-party-verified Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), helping to ensure transparency and credibility throughout the supply chain.
“For Only & Sons, this partnership demonstrates that responsible material choices can go hand in hand with comfort, fit, and performance,” said Kenneth Bennetzen, strategic sourcing manager, Only & Sons Denim.
“It is particularly important to us that claims regarding materials are backed by recognized certifications and third-party verified assessments,” the manager added.
