MIC, an Italian company specializing in the production of sewing, embroidery, and knitting yarns, is celebrating its 50s anniversary this year while strengthening its commitment toward innovation, its local origins from the Verona textile industry and manufacturing heritage.

Within this context it is one of the main supporters of the Gelseta project. The initiative, carried out in collaboration with the University of Verona, aims to bring the historic Veronese silk industry back to life and recreate a virtuous model of synergy between agriculture, crafts, and industry, as well as to promote an environmentally friendly approach.

The project aims to reactivate mulberry cultivation and develop a complete production cycle, including silkworm breeding and cocoon spinning to make yarn and ensure a local, traceable, and sustainable supply chain.

While a first step of the project has already started with the beginning of mulberry planting and the consequent growing of silk warms, MIC is participating in the project both as an industrial partner and as a promoter of a circular, low-impact production model.

The company will handle the final stage of the process, taking care of the part dedicated to the transformation of fibers into yarn, in collaboration with the project’s scientific partners.

During the last edition of Denim Premiere Vision, MIC presented a significant technical and industrial application of its yarns as part of the European Muse Glove project.

The initiative was launched in collaboration with the BioRobotics Institute of the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa and Shima Seiki Italia, a leading Japanese manufacturer of knitting machines. This project aims to clinically validate an innovative assistive exosuit (a robotic textile glove) designed to support upper limb movement for people with sensorimotor difficulties.

This collaboration is concrete proof of how a thread can connect seemingly distant worlds—from sewing jeans to supporting the silk industry up to developing advanced assistive technologies for human well-being and movement.
