Geox, an Italian company specializing in the production of footwear designed for maximum breathability and comfort, has just launched Climasandal, a selection of summer sandals added with a new patented technology–Ventilated Cushioning System.
“The critical state of the global economy and global warming are causing enormous difficulties. Geox, thanks to its creative spirit and technological expertise—having previously developed, for example, ‘the’ shoe with a breathable sole—wanted to bring another innovation to life,” explained Mario Moretti Polegato, Geox’s visionary president.
The global group, present in over 100 countries and with around 580 flagship stores, developed this technology—already available on an industrial scale—in collaboration with a team of young experts trained at its facilities throughout the Veneto region.
“We have always taught the talents we train to look at reality to understand people’s needs, knowing how to distinguish what truly matters from what is superfluous.
That’s why, together with them, we studied how to improve the performance of the summer sandal—a shoe model that is crucial to sales during the warmer seasons, accounting for about 60% of sales, yet a style that hasn’t seen any innovation in quite some time,” explains Polegato.
In light of changing global climate conditions, with summers that are increasingly hot and prolonged, and after observing how the foot reacts during normal walking in the summer, Geox has introduced several improvements to keep the foot cool through this new sandal selection.
“We decided to equip our sandals with a mechanical system that creates air circulation. It isn’t based on sensors, but is simply activated by the foot’s natural movement,” explains Polegato.
“We’ve therefore introduced a pump near the heel, in the sole of the sandal. As you walk, the pump is compressed, and air is channeled through the sole and flows out at the base of the toes. The air pressure, however, is released gently, creating a moderate and pleasant cooling effect,” he adds.
Furthermore, to maximize the benefits, they have created a new sole—that is ultra-lightweight and ultra-comfortable—that weighs approximately 40% less than standard sandal soles on the market.
“For the company, this will be a revolutionary and one-of-a-kind product, and further confirmation of our ability to create and manage scientific research,” Polegato emphasizes, also explaining that the price of these sandals will remain affordable, though slightly higher than that of other Geox shoes, ranging from €99 to €119.
Despite the study of this technology had actually been completed some time ago, Geox had underestimated its potential; normally, engineering new projects takes between 18 and 24 months. For Climasandal, however, they managed to bring it to market in just five months, in addition to carrying out a complete redesign of the brand’s entire product line.
The first models of sandals available for women, men and kids, have already been sold in select stores around the world for the Spring/Summer 2026 season and are proving to be a huge success. Though, they expect more tangible and evident results from its launch with the Spring/Summer 2027 season.
