Why Milan never sleeps during Design Week

Milan Design Week has just kicked off and invaded the city with an whirlwind of events, installations, parties and celebrations both for Fuorisalone and for the official event at Rho Pero trade show pole

While a few celebrations have started on 19 April, the city will see its untiring multitude of guests running from one area to the other until 26 April.

Many fashion brands chose to be protagonists of the week too disclosing their most outstanding aesthetic projects and new initiatives, throughout this special spring week course.

Many designers are hosting their own home collection—either at their heaquarters or in other iconic locations of the city. Among them there are Armani, Borbonese, Dolce&Gabbana, Fendi, Luisa Beccaria, Roberto Cavalli and Versace.

Many other important names chose to partner with significant homeware brands or showcase some own specific project.

Prada disclosed its Prada Frames symposium in collaboration with Formafantasma discussing the complex relationshio between environment and design.

Gucci presents Gucci Memoria, an immersive exhibition curated by Demna at Milan’s Chiostri di San Simpliciano. Conceived as a continuous narrative, the project traces the House’s 105-year history, reflecting its evolving identity while remaining anchored in its Florentine origins.

Among others, Stone Island presents No Seasons, an original 1989 project my Massimo Osti re-interpreting its origins rooted in the past at the light of forward looking design. A singke outerwear model is presented in six different materials.

Moreover, Ferrari, Antonio Marras, Bottega Veneta,Fratelli Rossetti, Loro Piana, Vivienne Westwood, Antonioli, Missoni, Tod’s, DSquared2, Valextra and many others take the stage.

Among most innovative initiatives, yoox.com presents an immersive installation created in collaboration with digital artist Keta Bart, reinterpreting the fitting room as a space of transformation where identity, fashion, and technology come together.

Paola Sasplugas, a Spanish architect and the creative director of the jewelry brand PDPaola, has created an installation at the University of Milan on Via Festa del Perdono titled “Crafted to transcend.” This experiential architectural work is inspired by her iconic Glacier earrings with their fluid form. A series of vast curvy elements made of crumbly material house the brand’s jewelry, along with distorting mirrors and an area where each visitor can engrave their own personal contribution.

To mark its 80th anniversary, Vespa is hosting an exclusive in-store press preview on the morning of April 23 to kick off the celebrations at Vespa The Empty Space, on Via Broletto.

The Trussardi showroom is enhanced by the Trussardi Casa collection and comes alive all week long thanks to a rich lineup of events, meetings, and workshops open to the public. It takes a journey through the values of the Gentle Society, where kindness asserts itself as a conscious form of expression and resistance.

The Santoni boutique at Via Montenapoleone 18 hosts “Play with Uniqueness with Santoni.” Here, “One of One” comes to life—a meeting of artisanal mastery and personal identity, where every detail becomes a unique expression in a process of co-creation.

Designer Sabato di Sarno and Vanity Fair collaborated on the transformation of the reknown Milanese Cozzi Pool for the Insieme project, a documentary film that celebrates and chronicles a journey through 12 examples of exceptional Italian craftsmanship.

Sebago boat Tour, Milan Design Week

Sebago, the well-known American footwear brand part of Basic Net Group, is celebrating its 80th anniversary with the Sebago Boat Tour, a project that takes the brand to various European cities in an innovative and irreverent way. The centerpiece of the initiative is a boat shaped like the Docksides boat shoe, the model that laid the foundation for the brand’s identity and marked its beginnings. The tour will continue through various European fashion capitals such as Amsterdam, Florence, Paris, and London.
