Stefano Gabbana, who co-founded the brand with Domenico Dolce in 1985, has reportedly stepped down from his role as chairman.
Bloomberg reported the piece of news on the evening of April 9, although the designer and entrepreneur had already left the company in December 2025 and is reportedly seeking to sell his 40% stake in the brand.
Although no news had leaked earlier, the Italian fashion house has not yet commented on the matter.
Nor has there been confirmation that Gabbana’s role would be taken over by Alfonso Dolce, Domenico’s brother and CEO. Nor they confirmed the arrival at the company of Stefano Cantino, who is leaving Gucci, for an unspecified role.
In addition, in a few days, the brand is reportedly negotiating with banks for a €150 million capital injection, part of a broader strategy for a €450 million refinancing.
According to the agency, Stefano Gabbana is reportedly considering selling his 40% stake in the company. The remaining shares would be divided between Domenico Dolce and the siblings Alfonso and Dorotea.
Dolce&Gabbana is one of the few Italian companies still owned by its founders—Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce, aged 63 and 67 respectively, who were partners in life since when they founded the company, but have not been for 20 years. The griffe is a consistent example of Made in Italy fashion inspired by the celebration of Mediterranean taste and sensuality.
